Strategic Outsourcing and DC Design – Making Choices for Success

The Challenge:

Maple Leaf Foods is the largest foods processor in Canada. At the front end of a multi-year transformation plan for its manufacturing and distribution footprint, the company required a consolidated DC plan (moving 6 to 1) or an outsourced solution that would achieve their planned goals of consolidated distribution. To determine the most effective direction, Maple Leaf enlisted the help of SCA.

How we solved it:

  • Education and Knowledge.SCA worked directly with the Maple Leaf’s senior management to educate the company about outsourcing distribution operations.
  • Process Organization.SCA led the outsourcing process by developing the business requirements, pricing approach and RFP process implementing an initial RFI and then shortlisting candidates.
  • Design and Development. We provided the 3PL with a consolidated design and MH approach designed and developed by SCA for the new facility.

“We hired Supply Chain Alliance to conduct work related to warehouse design and possible outsourcing of our warehouse operations. SCA was professional, knowledgeable, credible and detailed in their work at every stage. Each SCA resource brought experience and know-how from real-life experience. They were able to produce high quality work in a short timeframe and became a business partner in our strategic journey towards a new distribution network. The SCA team brought the practical approach that was required in this project and the partners of the firm brought just the right amount of senior level involvement.”
